Former Illinois Supreme Court Justice John L. Nickels began his career in law as an attorney in Kane County, Illinois, where he practiced for over twenty years. Justice Nickels was first elected to the judiciary as Circuit Judge for the 16th Circuit in 1982. In 1990, he was elected Justice for the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District. Justice Nickels was elected to the Illinois Supreme Court in 1992, where he served for six years before retiring in December 1998. During his tenure there, he was the judicial liaison to the Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.
